As Vampire Survivors continues to receive updates, some patches have players wondering how to open coffins in maps. Initially, this item only appeared in the Dairy Plant map but has now been added to several other stages. Make sure to unlock the level first before you can open the coffin. Milky Way map
Whether playing the Dairy Plant stage for the first time or not, gamers will still see a large green arrow on the side of the screen. This points to a new mechanic/item mentioned in the update Unlike other items and weapons that can be found, this is a permanent item across all runs that the player does not need it costs money to buy.
If you haven't received this item yet, it is a Milky Way map that players can reach in about 4 minutes of running straight there, unless they choose a slow character like Exdash Exiviiq. In fact, gamers do not need the Milky Way map to open the coffin, but it is useful for opening the coffin in Mad Forest.
Dairy Plant Map
The reason players should get the map is to make finding the coffin easier when running normally. It appears on the map in the pause menu as a question mark. Work towards it and try to evolve as it will be necessary to fight some tough enemies.
If not well prepared, gamers can end the run early and waste time trying. Luckily, there's nothing too complicated about opening the coffin. When approaching it, a large group of enemies will spawn and move out and back. Be sure to kill any enemies that appear as the coffin will not open until this job is completed.
The enemies will be of the same type so keeping track of them will be easier. After killing all the enemies that appear on the map, simply step into the coffin to trigger a cutscene. This cutscene reveals the new character, Poppea Pecorina, and a text message Thank you Mortaccio, but the vampire is in another coffin!. Character names depend on the character people are playing. After that, gamers still need to spend 2500 coins to unlock the character.
Mad Forest Map
Opening the coffin in the Mad Forest map is also the way to unlock Pugnala Provola. This process is not very different from unlocking Poppea Pecorina as explained in the previous section.
Just start the Mad Forest stage and use the Milky Way map to find the coffin's location. Players will need to kill the tough enemies that spawn around it before being able to open the chest. After dealing with them and opening the coffin, everyone will have a new character available that will still need to be purchased with coins.
Gamers should tackle this stage in Hyper mode if they want to get there even faster. Additionally, Pentagram works well here as it can instantly kill any enemies guarding the coffin.
Inlaid Library Map
As part of patch 0.5.0 implementing Arcana, the developers also added another coffin for players to find. If the Milky Way map is already available, players can simply pause to find the question mark, by going right until they find it.
If you have found Stone Mask before, it will be a little further away. Luckily, it's difficult to miss the coffin as it's located in the middle of the level and immediately spawns a bunch of skeletons similar to Mad Forest. If you are still unsure about how to open the coffin, gamers will need to defeat each skeleton before opening it.
Gallo Tower Map
Patch 0.5.2 introduced a new coffin exclusive to Gallo Tower, which is relatively similar to the other coffins in Vampire Survivors except for the approach. If you already have a Milky Way map, just start Gallo Tower and use your map to find the question mark far away from the tower.
Once you reach the question mark, you can see that it's out of reach, slightly off the level. All you need to do is go left, facing the question mark. Just go to the right place, there will be a mirror to enter. This will teleport the character to a small area with a coffin below.
Similar to opening every other coffin in Vampire Survivors, gamers will need to defeat each nearby enemy. Once they have all been eliminated, the player can interact with the coffin by walking on top of it. This unlocks the new character added in patch 0.5.2 – Concetta Caciotta.
Cappella Magna Map
Patch 0.7.2 introduced the new Cappella Magna stage 5 and with it a coffin. Like most coffin levels in Vampire Survivors, players can utilize the Milky Way hill map to find the question mark, going there to spawn a group of enemies.
As usual, gamers cannot open the coffin until they have dealt with all enemies that spawn from there. As shown in the screenshot above, there is a small barrier above the coffin that usually blocks the player character. Once all enemies have been dealt with, the player can step on the coffin to unlock Zi'Assunta Belpaese.
Map of Mt. Moonspell
The Legacy of the Moonspell DLC added a new map and another coffin. Assuming players have the Milky Way map, people can use the pause menu to find the question mark. It's located near the top right, hidden inside a building.
MT. Moonspell is a lot larger than the other maps and there are some areas where gamers need to be careful. This is because certain areas have tight hallways or buildings with small entrances.
Regardless, once you find the coffin inside, defeat the terrifying Tsuchigumo that appears. This is a purple creature that moves with its arms and legs. Then, step on the coffin to unlock the Miang Moonspell character.
