The combat system in The Thaumaturge
The Thaumaturge integrates a turn-based combat system, pitting you against both human enemies and supernatural creatures. In the game, you play as Wiktor Szulski, a magician who can influence the hearts and minds of other characters in the game, and can control and command demon-like creatures called Salutors.
The Thaumaturge’s initial combat system can be a bit overwhelming, so here are some guidelines to help you dominate each encounter in the game.

Preview enemy attacks
One guide that can help you is to check the enemy’s upcoming hits – they are displayed at the top of the screen. By reading from left to right, you can know which enemy will attack next. This will allow you to plan attacks in advance.
Use Salutor appropriately
Salutors will sometimes lead you to victory in specific combat situations. Although your attacks are limited, the number of Salutors you can use in a match will allow you to focus on your enemy’s weaknesses. These Salutors have many different abilities that can give them an advantage when attacking.
Upgrade skills correctly
This can be one of the most complicated aspects of combat. You’ll unlock skills and upgrades every time you level up and discover new Salutors. Each upgraded skill will create new effects. Additionally, you can remove this upgrade to apply it to another skill (change must occur before each battle). So equip upgrades for the right skills.
Take advantage of Damage Over Time skills
If you focus too much on one person in a group of enemies, you may be caught off guard by other enemies. So, using Damage Over Time skills like Old Wound or Agony will ensure that your enemies will always take passive damage, and in return, you will receive get rewards – for example HP.
Use many basic attacks
Although it is possible to focus only on passive damage or DPS, it is most beneficial for you to use all the diverse attacks. Even small punches can turn the tide of battle. By using basic attacks during combat, you will unlock higher level versions of them.
