Riot Games Working on Developing an MMO Based on League of Legends.

It has been rumored since late 2020 that a might be in development. The unofficial announcement that is actually developing a came from the Lead Designer at Riot Games, Greg Street. He said the following on Twitter:

Therefore we kind of have an announcement, but not really an official one yet with a trailer.

The kind of reveal came after he tweeted the following:

“I have news!

My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need!

Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.

PS We’re hiring”

Basically saying that they started hiring for a new project at Riot Games, namely the new League of Legends MMO. You can find job listings here.

On the job listings page they are looking for:

  • Gameplay Engineering
  • Game Design
  • UX Design
  • Game Art (All Sub-Disciplines)
  • Game Production

They are also saying that developers applying for the job should already bring experience with MMOs with them.

On a later date he also mentioned that not all League of Legends player may love the game.

So far this has all been very strange and underwhelming, but this might be because it hasn’t been the official announcement of the game. Greg Street also said that the game may never release if Riot Games isn’t happy with it. After all, getting a MMO out and maintaining it is the most difficult part!
