If you’re a new player, you may be wondering how to get a pet, let alone multiple pets. When building your farm, you can choose “Animal Preference” from a small list of dogs and cats. On day 10, Marnie will appear at your farm and give you the pet you chose during Character Creation.
Cats and Dogs are low maintenance in Stardew Valley, but you can still interact with them daily, pet them and fill water bowls to increase your pet’s friendship level. If you want to get a new pet, it is important that you interact with your pet every day.
How to raise many pets in Stardew Valley 1.6
If you pet your cat or dog every day and regularly refill their water bowl, your relationship with your pet will improve. You can track this process in the tab Animals new (accessed by pressing ESC). When you reach maximum level with your first pet, you can adopt another pet.
If you’re keeping a second pet on your farm, you’ll need a new water bowl. You can buy one from Robin for 5000G and 25 Hardwood. When you have the second bowl, you can adopt a new pet from Marnie the next day.
